Lyles signs with University of Massachusetts-Lowell

The Vernon Vipers hockey club is pleased to announce that 20-year-old defenceman Malcolm Lyles has committed to play for the University of Massachusetts-Lowell River Hawks for the 2011-12 season.

Lyles, a product of Miami Gardens, Fla.,  has steadily improved throughout the season according to the Vipers coaching staff, who believe he has become one of the premier defenceman in the league.

“His skating ability and strength are among the best in the BCHL,” said Vipers associate coach Jason Williamson. “His style of play has made him a fan favourite.”

The Riverhawks play in Hockey East which also includes Lyles' former team, the Boston College Eagles. Patrick Cey, a former Viper, also plays for the Riverhawks and was recently named Hockey East player of the week.

“Malcolm has worked hard to get back to the college level,” continued Williamson. “He has been an extremely important piece to our team and is a player that is very hard to play against for the opposition.”

The Vernon Vipers would like to congratulate Malcolm on this recent achievement and wish him continued success.
