Friday Night: Pair of OT’s

Friday night featured a pair of overtime victories as the Trail Smoke Eaters and Langley Chiefs used the extra frame to get past the Penticton Vees and Burnaby Express respectively.

In Trail, Brandon Clark played hero with his goal in overtime as the Smokies were 4-3 winners over the visiting Penticton Vees.   Ryan Bulach led the way for the Smokies as he scored twice and added an assist while Paul Mailey played a key role assisting on a pair of Trail goals.  Paul Barclay earned the win in goal making 26 saves.

The other overtime finish saw the Langley Chiefs overcome a third period deficit to get by the Burnaby Express 5-4 at the George Preston Recreation Centre in Langley.  Colton Beck scored the winner just over a minute into the first overtime period.  Trevor Elias picked up three assists in the win while Derek Grant scored once and added an assist.

The Nanaimo Clippers were in Alberni Valley to take on the Bulldogs and headed home with two points – edging the Bulldogs 4-2.  Russell Goodman scored once and added an assist to pace the Clippers while Evan Smith was the winner in goal making 28 saves.

The Powell River Kings continued their strong play at home scoring seven times on their way to a 7-4 win over the visiting Cowichan Valley Capitals.  Ryan Green scored twice while Chad Niddery and Clay Harvey each recorded a goal and one assist.  Carsen Chubak made his debut in the Kings' goal and stopped 24 of 28 Cowichan Valley shots to earn the win.

The Vernon Vipers got one goal and one assist performances from Braden Pimm and Chris Crowell to defeat the Merritt Centennials 3-1 at the Nicola Valley Arena.  Mike Collins also enjoyed a two point night with a pair of assists while Andrew Hammond allowed just one goal on 26 shots to pick the win in goal.

The Salmon Arm SilverBacks were 5-1 winners on home ice over the visiting Prince George Spruce Kings on the strength of a two goal and one assist outing by Conor Morrison.  Mark Zengerle also recorded a three point night with a goal and two assists.  Bryan Gillis stopped 20 of 21 Prince George shots to record the victory in goal.
