Gillam Makes Commitment to Cornell

The Chilliwack Chiefs have announced goalie Mitch Gillam has committed to Cornell University for the 2013-14 season.

Gillam finished with a 23-16 record during regular season with a 3.10 goals-against average while posting a .911 save percentage. The solid numbers garnered the Peterborough, Ont. native BCHL Second Team All-Star and All-Rookie team honours in his first year.

Gillam was stellar in getting the Chiefs into the playoffs. The 5-foot-11, 181-pound netminder played in six of the team’s final seven games, averaging just two goals against and winning all his starts. In the first round, Gillam was a key factor in the Chiefs’ two wins over the Penticton Vees, combining for 68 saves on 71 shots in those contests.

Currently on Cornell’s roster are five BCHL alums including forwards Madison Dias, Dustin Mowrey and Joel Lowry – all Victoria Grizzlies graduates – Vince Mihalek from the Westside Warriors and Braden Birch who played for the Nanaimo Clippers.

Gillam joins defenceman Nolan De Jong of the Grizzlies, defenceman Reece Willcox of the Merritt Centennials and forward John Knisley of the Vernon Vipers as committed Cornell players for the coming seasons.
