For the second consecutive night, the Powell River Kings and Vernon Vipers needed overtime to settle things at the Wesbild Centre. But on Wednesday, the home team triumphed to take a 3-1 series lead in the 2009 Fred Page Cup Finals.
Rookie forward Sahir Gill scored at 5:31 of the third overtime frame to give the Vipers the Game 4 win.
Mike Collins had given the Vipers an early lead, capitalizing on a power play 5:22 into the first period. Kings forward Erik Vos evened the score soon after, though, and Game 3 overtime hero Jordan Grant put Powell River ahead early in the second. But after Vernon drew level on a Braden Pimm tally three minutes into the third period, overtime was certain.
The series now returns to the Sunshine Coast for Game 5 on Friday evening. Face off is set for 7:30 PM from the Powell River Recreation Centre.
