Gladiuk’s third period pair lifts Clippers to win

Andrew Gladiuk scored a pair of early third period goals to break a 3-3 tie as the Nanaimo Clippers extended their unbeaten streak to six games on Friday evening with a 6-4 victory over the Burnaby Express at the Frank Crane Arena.

The Express jumped out to an early 2-0 lead in the game with a pair of first period goals from Simon Denis and Garrick Perry. Carson Schell set the tone for the back-and-forth affair, however, pulling Nanaimo to within one at the 14:45 mark of the period.

Cody Bremner drew the Clippers even in the second, while Denis and Luc Olivier Blain traded goals midway through the frame to send the game to the third period ties 3-3.

Gladiuk then dashed Burnaby's hopes of a road win early in the final period, scoring at the 1:37 and 3:48 marks of the third. Colby Kulhanek, in his first game with the Express, and Nicholas MacIntyre traded tallies to close out the game.

Mark Segal picked up the win in net for the Clippers, stopping 25 shots, while Nick Energren made 32 saves in the loss.

Burnaby continues their three-game Vancouver Island road trip on Saturday night with a trip to Cowichan Valley, while the Clippers next face off on Sunday when they host the Capitals.
