Grizzlies top Cowichan Valley on late PP effort

In the end, the Victoria Grizzlies made the most of their power-play chances while the Cowichan Valley Capitals didn't. On a penalty-filled night, it was Grizzlies' forward Joel Lowry who broke through a third period deadlock to score with the man advantage, sending his team to a 4-3 home ice win.

The game began with a trio of quick goals, with Cowichan's Brendon MacDonald and Rajan Sidhu and Victoria's Brandon Fagerheim all scoring within six minutes of the opening faceoff. Spencer Copp pulled the Grizzlies even before intermission, and Dylan Nowakowski and Alex Halloran traded second period goals to set the stage for Lowry's winner.

Colin Fernandes picked up his first win in a Grizzlies uniform in net, turning aside 33 of 36 shots, while Paylor Pears made 24 saves in goal for the Capitals.

Cowichan Valley is back on the ice Saturday at home to Langley, while Victoria awaits a Tuesday visit from the Powell River Kings.
