Hammond continues hot streak in win over Clippers

Cowichan Valley Capitals winger Mike Hammond continued his scorching offensive pace on Friday evening, scoring once and setting up two other goals in a come-from-behind 3-2 victory over the Nanaimo Clippers at Frank Crane Arena.

The Capitals fell behind in the first period after Luc Olivier Blain scored with the man advantage, but a Nick Anderson marker midway through the second drew the visitors even. Hammond and Blain then traded goals just 1:01 apart early in the third, setting the stage for Jackson Garrett's winner with less than eight minutes remaining in regulation.

Hammond, who was named the game's first star, is now riding a five-game point streak that includes six goals and nine assists. Blain and Teal Burns each picked up two points for Nanaimo.

Alex Peck picked up the win in net for Cowichan Valley, turning aside 30 shots. Loic Boivin made 21 saves in the loss.

The Capitals will attempt to keep their momentum going on home ice Saturday night when the Powell River Kings visit. Nanaimo is next is action on Sunday when they host the Alberni valley Bulldogs.
