Kings complete comeback with Game 7 triumph

The finals are now set for both the Interior and Coastal conferences as the Powell River Kings won their Game 7 meeting Wednesday night by a 4-1 score over the Victoria Grizzlies.

Powell River was a motivated club to start the game and outshot the Grizz 18-6 in the opening frame. A pair of Daniel Schuler goals just over a minute apart gave the home side a 2-0 edge at the first intermission.

The second period almost finished scoreless but Victoria's Justin Fillion scored on the power play with a second remaining to give the Grizzlies some life heading into the third.

Victoria pushed to tie it in the final period, outshooting the Kings 14-9 but the score remained 2-1 late into the games final stages when Carter Shinkaruk finally got the insurance marker for Powell River. Schuler completed the hat trick in the dying seconds.

Victoria had led the series 3-1 but the top-seeded Kings won three straight to advance to the Coastal Conference finals against the Surrey Eagles. Powell River will stay at home at host the Eagles Friday night at 7:30 p.m.

In the Interior Conference, the Vernon Vipers will host the Salmon Arm SilverBacks Friday at 7 p.m.
