Kings force seventh game with road win over Grizzlies

Hap Parker Arena in Powell River will play host to the second Game 7 of the 2011 Fred Page Cup Wednesday night as the top-seeded Kings defeated the Victoria Grizzlies 4-1 Tuesday in the provincial capital.

Special teams were lethal for the Kings in the Game 6 victory with none of their goals coming at even strength. Jon Jutzi, who scored the winner in Monday's overtime game, picked right up again and opened the scoring with a power-play tally towards the end of the first.

The defenceman made it 2-0 late in the second with another man-advantage marker. Joel Lowry got the Grizz on the board early in the third but Chad Niddery restored the Kings' two-goal edge with another power play goal a little under four minutes later. Niddery sealed the deal with a shorthanded goal just past the midway point of the third.

Coastal Conferencence MVP Matt Garbowsky had been pointless coming into the game but broke out for three helpers for Powell River. Jutzi was named 1st Star for the second straight game.

In Westside, the Vernon Vipers vanquished the Warriors with a  2-1 Game 6 win and will face the Salmon Arm SilverBacks in the conference finals.

Just like Powell River, all Vernon's offence came from special teams. Marcus Basara opened the scoring for the Snakes on the power play five minutes into the game. The lead held until the 6:16 mark of the second when Westside's Max French scored unassisted to tie it.

The deadlock persisted until John Knisley's shorthanded, unassisted goal at 12:41 of the third. Vernon gave the Warriors another power play before the end of the game but kept Westside scoreless in five man-advantage opportunities.

Vernon will host Salmon Arm Friday night at 7 p.m.
