Langley alum Gordic takes offensive nod with Michigan Tech

Michigan Tech Huskies winger Milos Gordic, who returned to the lineup from injury to score four goals – including a hat trick – in a conference victory and tie against nationally-ranked University of Denver last weekend, has been named Red Baron® Western Collegiate Hockey Association Offensive Player of the Week for November 1.

The 6-5, 210-pound sophomore from Burnaby was the offensive catalyst against the visiting Pioneers for the upstart Huskies, who are off to an impressive 5-2-1 start to the season under first-year head coach Mel Pearson.

After missing the first six games recovering from offseason surgery, Gordic tallied a hat trick in his first action of the season last Friday (Oct. 28) in a 7-2 triumph over Denver. He scored two power-play goals and an empty-netter in the game for the first hat trick by a Tech player since Brett Olson’s vs. Northern Michigan on Oct. 9, 2009.

Gordic then came back to score the first goal in a 2-2 tie versus DU last Saturday (Oct. 29). In addition to his four goals, Gordic also fired eight shots on goal in the series as MTU remained unbeaten at home at 5-0-1.

With the Langley Chiefs, Gordic played three seasons from 2006 to 2009 and racked up 84 goals and 72 assists in 160 career games.

Wisconsin centre and Salmon Arm SilverBacks alum Mark Zengerle was an honourable mention for this week's award.
