Langley Chiefs forward Colton Beck has been named the British Columbia Hockey League's Player of the Week for the week ending January 3rd, the league announced Monday.
Beck led the Chiefs to four consecutive wins last week, scoring seven goals and adding six assists in that span. On Tuesday, Beck scored twice in a 7-5 road victory over the Burnaby Express. One night later, he recorded a hat trick and added an assist in a 5-2 win over the visiting Nanaimo Clippers.
His excellent offensive week continued on the weekend, first with two assists in a 3-2 overtime win over the Express. He then capped the week with a pair of goals and five points in a 7-5 victory over the Cowichan Valley Capitals. Beck was named the game's first star on two occasions — Wednesday vs. Burnaby and Sunday vs. Cowichan Valley — and also picked up a third star selection.
The Chiefs are currently one of two BCHL teams riding an eight-game winning streak (the Alberni Valley Bulldogs are the other). Langley's recent success has vaulted them from sixth to fourth in the Coastal Conference standings and placed them just three points behind second-place Powell River. The club is next in action on Friday when they visit the Surrey Eagles.
Honourable mentions for this week's award included Mike Hammond of the Cowichan Valley Capitals, Kyle Singleton of the Westside Warriors, Tony Ierfino of the Salmon Arm SilverBacks and Ben Sexton of the Penticton Vees.
