MacMillan scores in regulation, double OT in Bulldogs win

Frank Slubowski made another star-worthy performance and Mitch MacMillan kept on scoring, as the Alberni Valley bulldogs crept within a point of second place in the Coastal Conference with a 3-2 double overtime win over Powell River at the Wyerhaeuser Arena.

The Kings took an early lead on Friday after Steve Axford scored on an unassisted effort just 4:39 into regulation. Jordan Grant then  doubled the Powell River advantage on a power-play midway through the second period.

Alberni Valley made their move late in the middle frame, however, as Mitch MacMillan tallied at the 17:49 mark and Kevin Ross tied the game on a man advantage just 17 seconds prior to intermission.

After a scoreless third period, the Kings looked to have caught a break after netminder Josh Watson turned away a Bulldogs penalty shot in double overtime. But Alberni Valley waited just 16 seconds longer to end the game, as MacMillan's second sent the crowd home happy.

Both teams return to the ice on Sunday, as the Kings return home to host the Victoria Grizzlies while Alberni Valley welcomes the Burnaby Express.
