Merritt’s Soquila commits to Queen’s University for 2010/11 season

The British Columbia Hockey League's Merritt Centennials are pleased to announce that graduating forward Jordan Soquila has committed to attend Queen's University and suit up for the Gaels hockey program for the 2010/11 season.

Soquila recently completed his third full BCHL season and his second in Merritt. He set a career high in 2009/10 with 17 goals and 45 points, and totalled 33 goals and 53 assists in 177 games between the Centennials and Burnaby Express.

“We are very happy that Jordan has come to such a wise decision regarding his future,” said Cents head coach and GM Luke Pierce. “His opportunities for success not only in hockey, but also in his future career path are extremely bright after having chosen Queen's University.”

The 20-year old was named the Centennials' captain prior to the 2009/10 season and led the club to its first postseason berth since 2007. He was also the recipient of the BCHL's RBC Junior A scholarship, which is selected based on excellence in academics and community service.

“We are extremely excited that Jordan has chosen Queen's to continue his education and pursue his hockey career,” said Gaels head coach Brett Gibson. “He is the type of student athlete that will excel in both the classroom and ice. Jordan will be given every opportunity to jump in and contribute right away.”

“The engineering program at Queen's is second to none which made it an easy choice,” says Soquila. “I feel honoured and excited to be part of the distinguished Queen's hockey team and student body and I look forward to great success on the ice and in the classroom.”
