Mitchell stars for ‘Backs, takes POW nod

MMitchellSalmon Arm Silverbacks forward Marcus Mitchell has been named the BCHL Player of the Week for the week ending October 9, the league announced Tuesday.

Mitchell led the ‘Backs to a pair of wins in as many nights and piled up seven points along the way. The 6-foot-2, 186-pound native of Kelowna, B.C. started his week with a goal and three assists and the game’s 1st Star in a 5-3 road win over West Kelowna. He was 1st Star again the next night for his two goals and one assist in a 6-3 home win over Surrey.

Turning 18 on Wednesday, Mitchell almost tripled his season points output with his seven-point week and now has 4-7-11 on the season.
