In this week’s NCAA Roundup, presented by CWENCH Hydration, we have four alumni from three different conferences that received weekly conference awards in college hockey.
Hockey East co-Player of the Week
Harrison Scott – Senior – University of Maine (Wenatchee Wild)
Scott led Hockey East in points (seven) while tying for first in goals (three) and assists (four) in a weekend sweep of Merrimack College. He had a goal and two assists on Friday night and followed it up with two goals and two assists on Saturday. Scott finished with nine shots on goal and one power-play goal while winning 15 faceoffs.
The San Jose, Calif. product played the 2019-20 season in the BCHL with the Wenatchee Wild. That year, he totaled 15 goals, 13 assists and 28 points in 48 regular-season games.
Hockey East Goaltender of the Week
Zachary Borgiel – Graduate – Providence College (Cowichan Valley Capitals)
In his only start last weekend, Borgiel pitched a 43-save shutout at New Hampshire on Saturday night for a 3-0 win. He made several highlight reel saves with 18 of his saves coming during penalty kills.
The 24-year-old played the 2019-20 season with the Cowichan Valley Capitals and finished with the fourth-best save percentage in the BCHL with a mark of .923. His 2.55 goals-against average was the fifth-lowest in the league and his four shutouts tied him for third among BCHL goalies. He also played the most minutes of any netminder that season.
CCHA Rookie of the Week
Grayden Slipec (F) – Freshman – Northern Michigan University (Surrey Eagles)
Slipec led all CCHA rookies in goals (two) and points (three) last week, recording eight shots on goal and one block defensively. On Saturday night at Michigan Tech, he had a hand in all three Wildcats goals, netting a pair of power-play tallies and assisting on another. His second multi-point game of the year saw him register four shots on target.
Slipec played the 2021-22 campaign with the Surrey Eagles as a 16-year-old and produced 18 goals, 19 assists and 37 points in 54 regular-season games.
ECAC Hockey Rookie of the Week
Hayden Stavroff (F) – Freshman – Dartmouth College (Salmon Arm/Alberni Valley)
Stavroff helped the Big Green to a pair of wins to start the season. The freshman forward scored two goals, one in each game, including the game-winner in a 2-1 win over rival Harvard.
Stavroff played two seasons in the BCHL from 2022 to 2024, the first with the Salmon Arm Silverbacks and the second with the Alberni Valley Bulldogs. He enjoyed a breakout season last year with the Bulldogs, leading the BCHL with 35 goals on the season and finishing tied for seventh in league scoring with 55 points in 46 games.
