Quesnel’s resilience pays off in comeback victory over SilverBacks

Joshua Desmarais clinched a pair of valuable road points for the Quesnel Millionaires on Friday evening, scoring the decisive overtime tally in a 4-3 victory over the Salmon Arm SilverBacks at the Sunwave Centre.

Corey Chakeen opened the scoring for Salmon Arm at the 15:27 mark of the first period, converting a David Killip feed past Kirby Halcrow on the power-play. Quesnel evened the game for the first time midway through the second on an Eric Galbraith effort and again late in the frame when Darick Ste-Marie cancelled out a Brett Knowles marker.

BCHL leading scorer Mark Zengerle put the SilverBacks back in front nine minutes into the third period, but Quesnel fought back once again. Jacob Verheyden scored with 4:30 remaining in regulation to push the game to overtime, and Desmarais struck with 25 seconds remaining in the first extra frame.

Halcrow picked up the win in net with a 31-save performance, while Salmon Arm netminder Tony Ierfino faced 36 shots in the loss.

The Millionaires continue their weekend road swing with a visit to Penticton on Saturday evening; the Silver|Backs, meanwhile, travel to Westside to face the Warriors.
