Quintet of BCHL grads hoist AHL’s Calder Cup

The Binghamton Sentors are on top the the American Hockey League universe and five BCHL alums on their roster have an accomplishment under their belt they'll always remember.

The Ottawa Senators top farm club earned a 3-2 road win over the Houston Aeros in Game 6 to claim the first AHL championship in team history. 

Former BCHLers in defencemen Geoff Kinrade (Cowichan Valley), Patrick Wiercioch (Burnaby) and forward Colin Greening (Nanaimo) all suited up for the title-clinching win while David Dziurzynski (Alberni Valley) played in the finals but not Game 6. Langley Chiefs grad Derek Grant played seven games in the playoffs but did not see action in the finals.

Greening and Kinrade each had a goal and four assists in Binghamton's playoff run while Dziurzynski had three helpers. Grant had a goal and an assist and Wiercioch tallied one helper.

The B-Sens won the final three games of the Calder Cup in what was a low-scoring series. Goalie Robin Lehner was named MVP of the playoffs after posting a 14-4 record, 2.10 goals-against average and a .939 save percentage.
