Salmon Arm grad Christie honoured for great season with Bisons

Former Salmon Arm SilverBacks netminder Steve Christie was a driving force behind the University of Manitoba Bisons' tremendous 2009/10 season, and the British Columbia Hockey League grad has been rewarded for his contribution to his team's success by receiving a number of individual honours in recent weeks.

After leading Manitoba to their first National University Cup appearance since 2005 and upsetting #2-ranked McGill to reach the tournament semi-finals, Christie was named Canadian Interuniversity Sport's Goaltender of the Year and to its First All-Star Team. He was also recoganized by the Canada West conference as the First Team All-Star Goaltender.

Christie compiled a 15-10 record with two shutouts in his fourth season with the Bisons while compiling a 2.51 goals-against average and .917 save-percentage. He led all Canada West netminders in wins, minutes played and shutouts and finished second in goals-against average and save-percentage. The 25-year old was also named the University of Manitoba's Male Athlete of the Year.
