Slubowski strong again as Bulldogs down Kings

On a rare night when BCHL goal-scoring leader Mitch MacMillan failed to light the lamp, the Alberni Valley Bulldogs pushed through with a balanced offensive attack in a 4-1 road victory over the Powell River Kings.

Tye Lewis opened the scoring late in the second period off a Matt Hatch feed, and Johnny Rogic extended the lead just over a minute later to give Alberni Valley a two-goal cushion after 40 minutes.

Frank Riddle added further insurance early in the third, while Daniel Carr and Mark MacMillan traded goals midway through the final period to close out the scoring. Hatch, Lewis and Marck MacMillan each finished with two points on the night.

Bulldogs starter Frank Slubowski continued his solid campaign by allowing just a single goal on a night where his team was outshot by a 38-20 margin. He was particularly sharp during an 18-save second period. Michael Garteig allowed three goals before giving way to Josh Watson early in the third.

Alberni Valley continues its three-game weekend road trip on Saturday with a visit to Surrey, while the Kings make the trip to Cowichan Valley to face the Capitals.
