Smutek’s four points lead Mills to win over Prince George

Skyler Smutek had a hand in all four of Quesnel's goals on Friday night as the Millionaires doubled up Northern rivals Prince George on home ice by a 4-2 margin.

Smutek opened the scoring at the 11:51 mark of the first period, converting a pass from Sam Higgins past Spruce Kings netminder Kyle Nielsen. Brett Howe extended the Millionaies lead with 33 seconds remaining in the period on a shorthanded effort.

Trever Hertz and Taylor Holst scored midway through the second and third periods respectively to put Quesnel ahead by four. Lyndon Martell and Brooks Robinson scored late goals to put the Spruce Kings on the board, but those two goals marked the only times the visitors would beat Mills starter Luke Siemens.

Smutek ended the night with a goal and three assists, while Hertz and Higgins each counted two-point efforts. Siemens stopped 31 shots in the victory, while Nielsen made 26 saves in the loss.

The Millionaires are back on home ice on Saturday when host the Salmon Arm SilverBacks, while Prince George hosts the SilverBacks in a Sunday matinee.
