Spruce Kings announce team awards

The Prince George Spruce Kings handed out their annual awards at the Player's Awards and Volunteer Appreciation Banquet last week. A total of eleven player awards and one volunteer award were awarded in front of packed house of players, team staff, volunteers and friends.

Volunteer Appreciation Award: Alison Akehurst
Leading Scorer: Paul De Jersey
Craig Dziuballe Memorial Award for Outstanding Community Service: Kirk Thompson
Scholastic Player of the Year: Jujhar Khaira
Defenceman of the Year: Chase Golightly
Most Improved Player: Ben Matthews
Rookie of the Year: Skylar Pacheco
Most Valuable Player: Paul De Jersey
Playoff MVP: Chase Golightly
Seventh Player Coach's Award: Jujhar Khaira
Most Dedicated Player: Trevor Esau
Most Inspirational Player: Leo, Myles and Gerry Fitzgerald

There were six graduating players including four overagers: Ben Matthews, Ben Woodley, Jarryd Ten Vaanholt and Michael Colantone. There was also a pair of players that were recognized as Spruce Kings graduates even though they still have years of eligibilty remaining. Paul De Jersey will be with the NCAA Providence College Friars next season and Jujhar Khaira who could still play for another three years will start his next season with the NCAA Michigan Tech Huskies.

Next up is the team's annual Spring Camp which runs from April 12 to 15 at the Prince George Coliseum.
