The Prince George Spruce Kings hockey club announced Thursday that Justin Fillion has committed to a four-year scholarship at Michigan Tech University and their NCAA Division I hockey program.
Fillion, 20, has played three seasons with his hometown Spruce Kings and recently surpassed the 100-point mark as a defenceman. Currently sitting second in team scoring with 13 goals and 24 assists for 37 points, Fillion is also second among defenceman in the league for points.
His three years with the Spruce Kings have resulted in 24 goals and 80 assists in 153 games.
“Justin Fillion is a Prince George hockey product who has given his heart and soul to the Spruce Kings over the previous three years,” said Spruce Kings assistant general manager and director of player personnel Mike Hawes. “It is really gratifying from an organizational standpoint whenever a fine young gentleman like Justin is able to reach one of his goals.”
“I want to give my thanks to Spruce Kings organization and to Ed Dempsey who was able to help me get this,” said Fillion. “I was given a great opportunity with the Spruce Kings to develop into an offensive guy and I can’t thank the Spruce Kings enough.”
Michigan Tech is a NCAA Division I school that prides itself in its engineering programs and is a nationally ranked school for engineering bachelor degrees awarded. Founded in 1951, the Michigan Tech Huskies have a history steeped in tradition and success including 36 NCAA championships. The Huskies play in the Western Collegiate Hockey Association (WCHA).
