Vees take second home win to begin Fred Page Cup Finals

If there was anyone left with questions about Chad Katunar's game, they've likely had them answered by now.

The Penticton Vees backup for the regular season, Katunar has been pressed into the #1 job for the playoffs due to an injury to Michael Garteig. The Victoria native has helped the Vees to a 2-0 lead in the Fred Page Cup Finals after making 29 saves on 30 shots Saturday night in a 2-1 Penticton home win over the Powell River Kings.

Matt Scarth actually opened the scoring for the Kings at 7:21 of the first but it proved to be the only puck to get by Katunar who has stopped 71 of 73 shots through two Finals games.

Joey Benik got the equalizer for Vees midway through the second and the game remained knotted 1-1 until 5:49 of the third when Steven Fogarty potted the winner for Penticton.

Katunar was named 1st Star for his performance while Bryce Gervais, who had two assists, was 2nd Star. Kings defenceman Craig Dalrymple was the 3rd Star on the night.

After being swept in last year's league Finals and losing Game 7 two seasons ago against Vernon, the Kings have now lost seven straight games in the BCHL championship round.

The series now shifts to Powell River where Game 3 is set for Tuesday, April 10 in a 7 p.m. start at Hap Parker Arena.
