Westside’s Grieve clutch in Game 7 victory

Westside Warriors forward Alex Grieve has been named the British Columbia Hockey League Player of the Week for the week ending March 5, the league announced Monday.

Grieve was instrumental in a hard-fought, seven-game series against the Trail Smoke Eaters, scoring four goals and adding four assists in a five-game span helping his team move on to the next round.

The Warriors captain was at his best in Game 7, putting up a goal and two assists in a 4-0 victory. He also took over the the postseason scoring lead with his showing and has seven goals and four assists in the playoffs.

The 6-foot, 190 pound Calgary native has spent the last three seasons with Westside and has recently comitted to Bentley University for next season.

Honorable mentions this week include Surrey Eagles netminder Karel St. Laurent, (2-0, 1.00 goals-against average, .962 save percentage, one 1st star, one 3rd star), forward Travis St. Denis from the Trail Smoke Eaters (five games, five goals, one assist, one 1st star, one 2nd star), and Victoria Grizzlies forward Dustin Johnson (three games, five goals, one assist, one 1st star)
