BCHL Friday: Beck’s big game lifts Chiefs

When the Langley Chiefs needed a big goal, Colton Beck came through. Twice.

Beck's power-play marker late in the third period was just a prelude for an overtime winner Friday night in a 4-3 defeat of the Langley Chiefs. He also added a first period assist.

Liam Harding, Andrew Wallace and Nolan Toigo scored in a losing cause for the Eagles, who recieved 28 saves from Tommy Tartaglione. Mac Roy also potted a pair for Langley.

Elsewhere around the Coastal Conference:

  • Mitch MacMillan and Eric Fraser each scored once and added two assists in Alberni Valley's 6-4 home win over a hot Cowichan Valley squad. Matt Wong turned aside 33 shots in the Bulldogs net for the win.
  • The Burnaby Express handed Powell River their second consecutive loss, defeating the Kings 4-2. Brent Vandenberg has scored twice for the Express, who received a first-star effort from netminder Richie Virtanen.
  • Ronnie Smith's late second period goal was te final tally in a 2-2 draw between the Prince George Spruce Kings and Nanaimo Clippers. Adam Baldassarre and Joe Morgan had previously staked the Spruce Kings to a 2-1 lead.

Meanwhile, the Salmon Arm Silverbacks triumphed in a battle between the Interior Conference's top two teams. Mark Zengerle scored and added two assists for the Backs, while Bryce Kakoske, Kyle Bigos and Chris Crowell replied for the Vipers. Bryan Gillis picked up the win for Salmon Arm, who were outshot 37-29.

In other Interior Conference action:

  • Chad Gehon scored twice and tallied an assist in a 3-1 Trail Smoke Eaters' win over Quesnel. Joshua Fersovitch scored the lone Millionaires tally while Smokies netminder Marco Raimondo allowed one goal on 20 shots.
  • Kevin Jebson's strong play in net was the difference in Westside's 3-2 overtime win in Penticton. Jebson stopped 36 shots and Jordan Gagne tallied the OT winner, while Denver Manderson and Zack Jospeher replied for the Vees.
