Coquitlam Express defenceman Sam Frandina, Salmon Arm Silverbacks forward Cole Cooksey and Merritt Centennials forward Michael Felsing have been named the NAPA Auto Parts 3 Stars of the Week, ending Feb. 18.

1st Star – Sam Frandina (D) – Coquitlam Express

Frandina only played one game last week, but he made the most of it, racking up three points in an overtime win.

The 2004-born defenceman registered an assist in the first period on teammate Jake Manfre’s goal to give the Express the icebreaker and a 1-0 lead in Friday night’s game against the Chilliwack Chiefs. With the visiting Express down 2-1 in the third, Frandina notched a power-play marker midway through the frame to tie things up and eventually force overtime. With Coquitlam on the power play again in overtime, the 19-year-old scored his second of the contest to win the game in extra time. He was named the first star of the game.

Frandina doubled his goal total last week and now has four on the year to go along with 14 assists and 18 points in 33 games.

2nd Star – Cole Cooksey (F) – Salmon Arm Silverbacks

Despite his team dropping two close games over the weekend, Cooksey put up a solid individual performance, scoring three goals and adding an assist for four points.

In Friday night’s back-and-forth contest against the West Kelowna Warriors, the Merrimack College commit finished with a goal and an assist in a 5-4 road loss.

The following night, the ‘Backs were in Vernon to take on the Vipers where Cooksey scored his 12th and 13th goals of the season, but the team fell just short in a 5-4 defeat. He was named the game’s second star.

The Toronto, Ont. product sits third on the team with 14 goals in 37 games, while his 11 assists give him 25 points on the year.

3rd Star – Michael Felsing (F) – Merritt Centennials

Felsing led all BCHL players with four assists last week, leading his Centennials to back-to-back wins.

In Friday night’s home game against the Trail Smoke Eaters, the 21-year-old had an assist in both the first and second periods, the second one coming while shorthanded, as Merritt skated to a 5-1 victory.

In the rematch on Saturday, this time in Trail, Felsing matched his output from the previous game, chipping in with another two helpers, both in the second period, to guide the Cents to a 4-3 win. He was named third star of the game.

Felsing’s impressive campaign continues, adding to his total to now sit at 49 points in 42 games, which puts him in sixth in league scoring, while his 35 assists are third best in the BCHL.
