Milan totals four points as Vees topple Westside

Just three days ago, the Penticton Vees knew that a pair of good performances were needed against a Westside Warriors squad that had crept within six points of second place in the Interior Conference. But on Saturday, the Vees made it two wins in less than 72 hours over their Okanagan rivals, scoring a 6-3 road victory.

The Warriors took control of the game early, as Alex Grieve opened the scoring at the 13:13 mark of the first period. Trevor Bailey doubled the advantage seven minutes into the middle frame, but a pair of quick goals from Penticton's Ben Sexton and Joey Holka swung the momentum back towards the visitors.

Alex Szczechura gave the Vees the lead later in the period on a power-play effort, and Penticton came out strong in the third with another trio of goals. Jake Johnson got things going at 6:36 of the frame, and Garrett Milan then put the game out of reach with a pair of goals in the span of 3:09. Cole Wilson scored late for the third Warriors' tally.

Milan picked up first star honours on the night, assisting twice in addition to his two goals. Sexton was the Vees' other multi-point contributor, picking up three points. Sean Bonar earned the win with a 24-sabe performance.

The Warriors will look to jump back into the win column on Sunday when they host the Merritt Centennials, while the Vees are back in action on Tuesday with a visit to Trail.
