Strong finish pushes Vees to third win in three days on Island swing

The Penticton Vees continued to roll on their Vancouver Island road trip, beating the Nanaimo Clippers by a 5-2 score to net their third win in as many nights.

Joey Holka was the offensive catalyst for the Vees, scoring twice. His first came just 3:13 into regulation, and held up as the game's only goal until Kyle Kramer evened the score on a shorthanded effort 27 seconds into the second period. The teams traded pairs of goals in the middle frame, with Penticton maintaining their lead after Denver Manderson and Adam Zamec cancelled out tallies by Kramer and Teal Burns.

The Clippers wouldn't come any closer on the night, however, as they were held to three shots in the third period. Matt Paltridge, on the power play at 11:03, and Holka again at the 14:12 mark, scored third period goals to salt the game away.

Vees starter Joel Rumpel turned aside 19 shots in the win, while Clippers netminder Mark Segal was peppered by 38 shots a losing effort.

Penticton now travels to Alberni Valley to wrap their weekend road swing. The Clippers, meanwhile, are idle until Friday when they host the Powell River Kings.
