UAF HOCKEY ADDS JUSTIN BINAB

FAIRBANKS, AK- The University of Alaska Fairbanks' hockey team has added its ninth recruit for next season, and fourth of the spring signing period.

Justin Binab, a 5-11, 190 pound defenseman from Victoria, British Columbia and the Langley Hornets of the British Columbia Hockey League will join the Nanooks for the 2005-06 season. He will enter UAF in the fall, and will have four years of eligibility.

Binab scored 13 goals and 15 assists for 28 points in 35 games for the Hornets last season. He had six power play goals, and a game winning goal.

“We were looking for more depth at the forward position, and we were looking for someone who could skate, had skills, and could keep up with the collegiate game,” said UAF Head Coach Tavis MacMillan. “Justin battled an injury last year, but we've seen him for a couple of years, playing in Langley and in Victoria the year before. Justin is a real good fit for us. He's a smart player, and he will compete for playing time right away.”

Binab joins defenseman Zach Gieszler of the Williams Lake Timberwolves of the British Columbia Hockey League, goalie Brandon Cross of the Merritt Centennials of the BCHL, forward Trevor Hyatt of the Estevan Bruins of the Saskatchewan Junior Hockey League, defenseman Steve Van Oosten of the Williams Lake Timberwolves of the BCHL, goaltender Chad Johnson from the Brooks Bandits of the Alberta Junior Hockey League, defenseman Tyler Eckford of the South Surrey Eagles of the BCHL, and forwards Kyle Jones of the Trail Smoke Eaters of the BCHL and Adam Naglich of the Victoria Salsa of the BCHL as members of the Nanooks' current recruiting class.
