Warriors strike for seven, take second straight from Penticton

The Westside Warriors completed a weekend sweep of the Penticton Vees, scoring four second period goals en route to a 7-3 home ice victory.

Tyler Krause opened the scoring just 1:21 into regulation, converting a Matthew Maher feed past Vees netminder Sean Bonar. The teams followed up a one-goal first period with an explosive second, combining for six goals. Grayson Downing struck first, doubling the Warriors lead on a shorthanded effort. Matt Paltridge drew Penticton within a goal at the 10:51 mark of the period, but a power-play tally from Alex Grieve and two goals from Cole Wilson put Westside ahead for good.

Downing struck again in the third period, while Trevor Bailey later scored for the fifth time in the weekend home-and-home set. Alex Szczechura and Ryan Viselli scored the other Penticton goals.

Warriors starter Kevin Jebson was strong once again, turning aside 31 shots in the victory. Vees netminder Sean Bonar, meanwhile, took the loss for the second consecutive night and was relieved by Joel Rumpel after two periods.

Penticton will have three days to regroup before trying to get back on the winning path when they host the Salmon Arm SilverBacks on Wednesday. The Warriors begin a three-game Coastal road swing on Thursday in Langley.
